Sleep Pattern, Types of Sleep Disorder and Sleep Quality in the Community-Dwelling Middle aged or Elderly Women

Abstract
Purpose: The purpose of this study was explore the sleep pattern, types of sleep disorder and sleep quality in the community-dwelling middle aged or elderly women.

Methods: The design of study was a descriptive correlational study. 327 subjects were participated in this study. To measure the study variables, the structured self-administered questionnaires were used. Collected data were analyzed with descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA and Pearson correlation coefficient.

Results: 82.8% of subjects had sleep disorder. Among subjects who had sleep disorder, 20.7%, 26.3%, and 53% had Type¥°, Type¥±, and Type¥² respectively. The mean score of sleep quality was 52.71(¡¾8.90). There were statistically significant differences of sleep quality between groups with regular bedtime and sleep apnea. Also there were statistically significant relationships both between age and sleeping time and between sleeping time and sleep quality. Snoring was not important factor that affects sleep quality. Lastly, there were sleep quality differences among types of sleep disorder especially between Type¥± and Type¥².

Conclusion: Although this study showed major influence factors of sleep quality, further researches are needed to explore other influence factors of sleep quality to develop effective intervention to reduce sleep disorders in middle aged or elderly women.
